 Opportunities for Academic Advancement

The Babette Taute Trust is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the Babette Taute Honours Scholarship for the academic year 2024. This scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to students undertaking Honours studies in fields related to English language, literature, and applied language studies.

Scholarship Criteria

The selection criteria for the Babette Taute Honours Scholarship include academic merit and excellence in various areas such as leadership in cultural or social domains, quality publications and writing, and outstanding performance in translation or English teaching.

Scholarship Coverage

Successful applicants will receive funding of up to R75,000 for a one-year Honours program. Notification of application outcomes will be communicated in early January 2024. Candidates are required to submit mid-year and final results for 2023, accompanied by a brief cover letter outlining their progress and future plans.

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the scholarship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • South African citizenship or permanent residence in South Africa.
  • Full-time enrollment in Honours studies in English language, literature, or applied language studies.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Not having been awarded bursaries exceeding a total value of R120,000.
