For the academic session 2022, the bursaries will be awarded to undergrad and postgrad students pursuing heritage-related qualifications. Eligible fields include anthropology, archaeology, archives and records management, conservation of the built environment, paleontology, museum studies, Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS), marketing of heritage, and digital heritage.

The bursary covers full tuition, prescribed books, accommodation (up to R 50,000), and meals (up to R 18,500). The funding is disbursed directly to the institution and is non-transferable.

DSAC Bursaries Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the bursary, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria. These include being a South African citizen, not exceeding 40 years of age, studying at an approved tertiary institution, pursuing a relevant qualification, maintaining a strong academic record, being unemployed, and having a current yearly salary below R 130,000.

This is a merit-based bursary, and preference is given to applicants with a more successful academic track record.

Interested candidates can apply by completing the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture Bursary Application Form 2023.pdf, available for download. The application form comprises three sections: Personal Details, 2022 academic information, and 2023 academic information. Completed application forms, accompanied by necessary documents, should be submitted to the institution’s bursary aid officer. Applications are not submitted directly to DSAC but through the university.
