Job Purpose

The Data Collectors will collect data at primary health care clinics in KwaZulu Natal. This includes completing survey instruments in clinics, tracking and contacting clinic users, and conducting surveys with clinic users at their preferred venue.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consenting participants
  • Assisting the team leader and study coordinator
  • Tracking and tracing selected patients
  • Conducting surveys and data abstraction
  • Compiling lists of participants for appointments
  • Reporting problems to the study coordinator
  • Participating in data collection process development
  • Performing finger prick for Dried Blood Spots (DBS) collection
  • Ensuring proper disposal of bio-hazardous waste
  • Maintaining documentation and records
  • Developing good relationships with local community stakeholders
  • Updating logs
  • Working with community programs for community preparation
  • Ensuring accurate record keeping
  • Facilitating participant reimbursement
  • Extracting information from clinic files

Minimum Requirements

  • 3-year tertiary qualification or Grade 12 with relevant work experience
  • Minimum 1-year research or data collection experience
  • Minimum 1-year experience collecting DBS
  • HIV testing and counseling certificate
  • Fluency in isiZulu and English
  • Driver’s License
  • Willingness to work after hours and over weekends and in rural/urban communities
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer literacy
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines
  • Relevant knowledge of HIV/AIDS
