Load shedding intensity is reduced by Eskom

Factors Contributing to Downgrade

Eskom credits the efforts of power station general managers and their teams for returning units to service, resulting in an improvement in generation capacity. Additionally, lower-than-anticipated electricity demand played a crucial role in the decision to reduce the load shedding intensity.

Current Status

As of Monday, unplanned outages stood at 13,449MW, with 8,383MW unavailable due to maintenance. Eskom acknowledges the positive impact of consumers heeding the call to use electricity sparingly during peak hours, contributing to a decrease in demand.

Conclusion

Eskom expresses gratitude to those practicing energy efficiency. The power utility will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary. The sustained improvement in generation capacity brings a temporary respite from more severe load shedding.

Eskom’s decision to reduce load shedding intensity reflects improved generating capacity and lower electricity demand, offering a short-term reprieve from more severe power disruption.
