NMU Online Application And Requriments 2025. Prospective undergraduate, postgraduate, and international students aiming to join Nelson Mandela University in 2025 are encouraged to apply online starting from April 2024.

Application Deadlines

  • 30 June 2024 for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) applications.
  • 30 June 2024 for Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) & Bachelor of Radiography (BRad) applications.
  • 02 August 2024 for early applications (excluding MBChB, BPharm & BRad).
  • 30 September 2024 for late applications (excluding MBChB, BPharm & BRad).
  • 30 September 2024 for international student applications.
  • 30 September 2024 for ALL student housing applications.

It’s important to submit your online application and ALL supporting documentation on time, as places in some qualifications are limited.

New Admission Process

Nelson Mandela University introduced a new admission process in 2019, moving away from the Admission Point Score (APS) method. The new method, called the Applicant Score (AS), includes several changes that prospective students should be aware of when applying to study at Mandela University.

How to Apply

  • Complete an application form online (applications open in April).
  • Ensure you meet the minimum Applicant Score (AS) and subject requirements before submitting your application.
  • Submit ALL your supporting documentation.

Calculating Your Applicant Score (AS)

  • The AS is calculated using six NSC 20-credit subjects (excluding Life Orientation, which is a 10-credit NSC subject).
  • For applicants with seven Grade 12 NSC subjects, the AS is calculated out of 600 by adding the percentages for six 20-credit subjects.
  • For those with eight or more subjects, the AS is calculated by adding the percentages obtained for the three main subjects (two languages and Maths/Maths Literacy/Technical Maths), plus the percentage(s) for any subject(s) required by the program, together with the percentage(s) for the next best/highest subject(s), up to a maximum of six subjects.
  • Applicants from quintile 1, 2, or 3 schools who attain 50% or higher for Life Orientation may add 7 points to their score out of 600.

Requirements for Courses Using the Applicant Score (AS)

All courses offered by Nelson Mandela University are listed in the course guide (Z-Card) under their study fields from A to Z. Additional information can be found in the Undergraduate Guide for prospective students.

Equivalency Conversion Table

International, NC(V) level 4, or Foreign School-Leaving certificate holders should use the Equivalency Conversion Table to calculate an equivalent Applicant Score (AS) for admission, based on percentages obtained in such certificates. Applicants with international or foreign qualifications must also meet Matriculation Board requirements.
