Important Dates for Late Applications

Late applications for school admissions in the Northern Cape will officially open on 8 January 2024 and will remain accessible until 16 January 2024. The department issued the following announcement to inform parents and guardians:

“The Northern Cape Department of Education would like to inform all parents and/or legal guardians that late admission applications for the 2024 school academic year will open on Monday, 08 January 2024 (09:00) until Tuesday, 16 January 2024 (23:59).”

How to Apply | A Step-by-Step Guide

To apply for late admission, parents and guardians can utilize the Northern Cape Department of Education’s school admissions website. The application process involves registering as a user, followed by logging into the system using the selected username and password.

Upon successful submission of the school admission application and the required documents, the system will automatically generate an SMS confirmation for the application.

Mandatory Documents for Application

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  1. Certified copy of the official birth certificate/ID
  2. Most recent school report card of the child
  3. Proof of child’s immunization against specified diseases
  4. Transfer card
  5. Parent/guardian’s ID
  6. Proof of child’s residence
  7. Proof of home address

School Preferences and Walk-In Centers

If a parent wishes to enroll their child in a specific school not listed, it implies that there is no available space at that school. Acknowledging challenges with internet connectivity in rural areas, the department has established 83 walk-in centers to assist applicants without online access.

Alternate Application for Other Grades

Parents or guardians applying for grades other than grade 1 and 8 can apply directly to schools for admission and placement.

Unified School Calendar for 2024

In a departure from previous years, where coastal and inland provinces had different school start times, the Basic Education Department has standardized the term dates for all public schools across the country.

Term Dates:

  • First Term: 17 January – 20 March
  • Second Term: 3 April – 14 June
  • Third Term: 9 July – 20 September
  • Fourth Term: 1 October – 13 December

Parents in Northern Cape have until 16 January 2024 to apply for late school admissions. The process, including required documents, is outlined, ensuring a smooth enrollment for the upcoming 2024 academic year.
