About SASSA

  • South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is a national agency created in 2005 to administer the country’s social security system.
  • Functions include distributing social grants on behalf of the Department of Social Development.
  • SASSA operates under the oversight of the Department of Social Development (DSD) and the Ministry of Social Development.

Learnership Purpose

  • Provide 18 months of workplace experience for unemployed learners who completed N6 theory from a TVET college.
  • Focus on HR, Finance, Business Administration, Communications, Customer Care, ICT, and related fields.

Minimum Requirements

  • N6 Certificate or statement of results from TVET college.
  • Letter from the TVET college confirming the need for 18 months of work experience.
  • South African Citizenship required.
  • Candidates must be unemployed.
  • Stipend: R3,500 per month.

Learner Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete 18 months’ workplace training at the SASSA Office of placement.
  • Comply with all administrative requirements of the internship.
  • Ensure timely completion of their log book by their mentor.
  • Provide support to the management team under the supervision of a mentor at SASSA.
