What is the KMF High School Scholarship?


Founded in 1999, the Kay Mason Foundation (KMF) South African Trust is a renowned educational institution dedicated to eliminating barriers to quality education for young, disadvantaged South Africans.


KMF offers a range of programs designed to provide scholars with essential support—social, intellectual, financial, and emotional—ensuring their success. The foundation has positively impacted the lives of numerous students, and it is currently accepting applications for its scholarship program for the 2025 school year.

Eligibility Criteria

Who Can Apply

The scholarship is open to students entering High School (Grade 8) in 2025. The program aims to connect learners with top South African schools, allowing them to embark on their Grade 8 studies, achieve academic goals, and reach their full potential.

Minimum Entrance Criteria

Before applying, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • South African citizenship
  • Sixth grade in 2023
  • Minimum overall average of 65% in first and second languages
  • Minimum overall average of 65% in Math and Science
  • Monthly gross family income not exceeding R17,500 (before deductions)
  • Residence in the Western Cape (Cape Town, Southern Suburbs, Northern Suburbs, Helderberg Area, or Boland Area)

Bursary Coverage

Selection Process

Upon reviewing all applications, KMF will subject candidates to tests to assess their suitability. Successful applicants will advance to the Selection and Support Programme, which includes attending lessons and exams in Bellville every Saturday.

Senior Scholar Preparation Programme

Formal scholarship awards will take place in 2024, and scholars will become part of the Senior Scholar Preparation Programme, attending Saturday courses.

Financial Evaluation

Before participating in the Selection and Support Programme, a thorough financial evaluation will be conducted.

Application Status

Applicants will be notified of their application status via the provided contact information. Failure to attend assessments or important meetings may result in application invalidation. If no response is received by the end of May 2023, consider the application unsuccessful.
