Understanding Unisa Applications

Application Process

New applicants and existing Unisa students applying for admission to a new qualification must register only if they receive a placement offer from the university.

Registration Guidelines

Unisa reserves the right to reject or cancel registrations found to be incorrectly admitted to a qualification. Re-registering students must adhere to the stipulated application period to avoid complications.

Additional Modules and myLife Email

For existing registered students wishing to add modules, the process involves logging into myUnisa, accessing the admin link, clicking on “Student Admin,” and selecting “Register Additional Modules.”

The university provides registered students with a free myLife email address on the portal. Activating this email account is essential as it serves as the official means of communication between the student and the university.

Your myLife email account remains the sole email address recognized by Unisa for official correspondence, establishing itself as the primary point of contact throughout your academic journey at Unisa.

Conclusion

Unisa’s 2024 registration dates offer diverse opportunities for students. The online registration process and myLife email ensure efficient communication in Unisa’s unique ODeL learning environment.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) provides financial assistance to students from poor and working-class backgrounds in the form of bursaries and loans. This funding is available to students studying at one of the 26 public universities or 50 TVET Colleges across the country.

Unisa is one of the universities where students can access NSFAS bursaries, which include allowances for student needs. However, the university has had to address false messages circulating about NSFAS allowances.

False Message Correction

A fake message recently circulated among students, claiming that NSFAS disbursements were delayed due to the absence of the DSF NSFAS manager, who was on leave until May 7, 2024. The message implied that payments could not be made without their authorization. Unisa responded to these rumors, clarifying that the message was fake and not issued by the university.

NSFAS Allowances Payment Update

Unisa confirmed that it has paid allowances to 149,348 students and continues to pay allowances as students update their banking details. Students are urged to activate their Unisa myLife email address to receive a link to update their banking details. Any queries can be directed to DSF-NSFAS@unisa.ac.za.

Students must receive the link from Unisa on their myLife email to update their banking details. Unisa has been paying NSFAS allowances since March 19, 2024.

UNISA NSFAS Allowances For 2024

NSFAS disclosed that 25 out of the country 26 universities have paid allowances to students. This followed an agreement made by the financial aid scheme, which saw institutions responsible for paying February NSFAS allowances.

While Unisa, along with other universities, will facilitate February and March NSFAS allowances, NSFAS confirmed a return to the direct payment method in April 2024. Students will need to register with the direct payment service providers previously assigned to their institutions.

UNISA Remittance Advice

To receive their NSFAS allowances, Unisa NSFAS students will receive remittance advice confirming the amount to be paid to them. This advice is a notification from the payer that payment for an invoice has been transmitted and will be received very soon. Once students receive their remittance advice, they will receive their allowances within 48 hours.

Conclusion

UNISA proactive approach in addressing misinformation and ensuring the smooth disbursement of NSFAS allowances underscores its commitment to supporting students in their academic pursuits. By clarifying the situation and providing guidance on updating banking details, Unisa aims to streamline the process, enabling students to focus on their studies without financial constraints.
