ABOUT GAUTENG CITY REGION ACADEMY

The GCRA is dedicated to fostering a skilled, capable, and ethical workforce for the Gauteng City Region. Through various initiatives, such as bursaries, internships, learnerships, and skills programs, the academy aims to contribute to the educational and professional development of the youth.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To qualify for the GCRA Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizenship
  • Matriculation and residence in Gauteng
  • Age between 18 to 35 years
  • Enrollment in a full-time undergraduate/postgraduate program at an accredited Higher Education Institution in South Africa
  • Financial assistance category, focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) qualifications

TYPES OF BURSARIES AVAILABLE

  • Top 3 (no fee paying schools/LSEN schools)
  • Top Achiever (certificate awarded by the MEC for Education and Youth Development)
  • Financial Assistance (for those not falling under Top 3 or Top Achiever)
  • Bursary Renewal (for continuing the same qualification funded previously by GCRA)
  • Bursary Reinstatement (for those previously funded by GCRA but suspended and now applying for reinstatement)

APPLICATION PROCESS

Documents Required

Applicants need to submit the following certified documents:

  • Certified HD Copy
  • Certified Matric results or statement
  • Acceptance letter from an accredited Higher Education Institution
  • Proof of Residence (Municipality bill or letter from Ward councillor)
  • Motivational letter written by the applicant
  • Academic record (if continuing with undergraduate/postgraduate studies)
  • Certified IDs from both parents
  • Certified salary advice/proof of income for both parents
  • In case of deceased parent/s, provide death certificate/s
  • Single parents, attach proof in the form of an affidavit
  • Parents or pensioners earning Social Grants, provide SASSA letter/affidavit

Application Guideline

  • Ensure Internet access
  • Have a valid email address, which will serve as the username
  • Register and create a profile online at GCRA Bursary Portal
  • After creating the profile, log in using the credentials on the portal
  • Click on the application tab and provide the required information
  • Accept the Terms and Conditions
  • Submit the application
  • An SMS with a reference number will be sent to confirm the application (keep it safe)
  • Amendments can be made and the application resubmitted before the closing date

DISCLAIMER

If a student receives a bursary at the age of 35, renewal will not be possible in the following year. Additionally, GCRA will only pay tuition fees if the institution cannot claim allowances through an invoice.

If there is no communication from GCRA within two months after the closing date, consider the application unsuccessful.
